A new clean energy-focused program is helping to support
San Antonio construction jobs.
City officials are now accepting applications for the
Green Contractor Rebate Program - a joint effort between the
City of San Antonio Office of Environmental Policy and
Build San Antonio Green - which is being funded by the American
Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
The program offers incentives to contractors who renovate homes through Build San Antonio Green's Energy Retrofit certification program. In order to be eligible for the incentives, contractors must be registered in San Antonio, be a member of BSAG, and attend an orientation session.
The rebate includes BSAG certification costs, home energy performance testing, and a cash rebate based on the level of energy efficiency improvement per home. The funding will be available until July 2012 or until all the money is gone.
This is all great news for San Antonio's construction industry, which has been
slowly recovering on a monthly basis, but continues to lose jobs when compared to last year.
The San Antonio-New Braunfels area's construction industry employed 46,700 workers during June, according to the U.S. Department of Labor
Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is up from 45,800 workers during May, but a 3.5 percent decrease from last year.
