Anyone looking for Denver nursing jobs (
Click here) or other healthcare positions should be having better luck this year than last.
During June, the Denver-Aurora-Broomfield area's unemployment rate increased from 7.7 percent to 8.4 percent after decreasing from 7.8 percent during May. Despite the latest decrease, the area's rate is lower than the national average of 9.5 percent.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor
Bureau of Labor Statistics, the
Denver area had a total non-farm employment of 1,191,400 workers during June, which is up from 1,183,300 workers during May and a 1.6 percent decrease from last year.
Only three industries lost jobs between May and June. The government industry lost 5,700 jobs, while the education and health services industry and
financial activities industry each lost 200 jobs.
Every other industry saw a monthly increase in employment, including:
- Leisure and hospitality by 4,000 jobs
- Mining, logging and construction by 3,500 jobs
- Professional and business services by 3,400 jobs
- Trade, transportation and utilities by 2,600 jobs
- Information by 300 jobs
- Manufacturing by 200 jobs
- Other services by 200 jobs
Four industries added jobs over the year during June. Although it lost workers on a monthly basis, the education and health services industry grew the most over the year, increasing by 1.7 percent to 139,900 jobs.
The government industry experienced the second-biggest yearly growth in employment, increasing by .5 percent to 178,700 jobs, while the leisure and hospitality industry grew by .5 percent to 132,200 workers and the other services industry increased by .2 percent to 49,000 jobs.
Despite adding thousands of jobs between May and June, the mining, logging and construction industry lost the most jobs when compared to last year. The industry's workforce decreased by 8.4 percent to 71,700 workers.
Other industries that saw a yearly decrease in employment include: manufacturing by 5.9 percent; information by 3.4 percent; trade, transportation and utilities by 2.4 percent; financial activities by 1.9 percent; and professional and business services by 1.8 percent.
