In today's society, many people are looking for work that will help make a difference. If you live in Massachusetts, you should know that there are many Boston green jobs and other positions throughout the state.

The recent American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is helping to create many green workforce expansions, including billions of dollars for home energy-efficiency upgrades and an extension of tax credits for renewable energy technologies.

According to an article by The Boston Globe, stimulus spending within the next two years is expected to create or save 79,000 jobs throughout the state.

Some companies that will be adding jobs include:

• Aeronautica Windpower - Located in Plymouth, this company plans to open a facility to produce commercial-sized turbines, creating up to 100 jobs. Potential jobs include technical positions for mechanics and assembly line workers and positions in business development and customer relations. The company currently has a 10-person staff that refurbishes wind turbines.
• Conservation Services Group - This Westborough energy-efficiency company has hired about 50 employees at its main office during the last six months. It plans to add 200 more jobs this year because of the stimulus and several new contracts, with 30 to 40 of those jobs in Massachusetts. The company currently has 400 employees and does business in 22 states.
• Boston-Power Inc. - This company, located in Westborough, makes the Sonata battery used in Hewlett-Packard's notebook computers. It's looking to hire about 24 new workers for marketing, sales and other positions.
• Evergreen Solar - This Marlborough company makes solar panels. It hopes to hire 90 to 100 people at a manufacturing plant in Devens. The plant, which opened last summer, is expected to have more than 800 workers at full capacity.
• GreatPoint Energy - This company, based in Cambridge, turns materials like coal, wood chips and trash into natural gas. It's planning to hire more workers and team with the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth to start a paid internship program.
